This lens feels and looks
very much like its sibling, the EF85mm f/1.8 USM.
It is only slightly longer than the EF85mm from the Manual Focusing ring
onwards.
This means that for both
lens, the Manual Focusing rings are the same distance from the lens
mount. This makes it a snap to get used to either lens if you have
the other.
The difference in focal
lengths is really not that much of a difference. Personally, I
prefer the EF100mm but different users will have different preferences I
guess.
The surprising thing is
that on both the EOS5 and EOS1n, the EF100mm "glides" into
focus, whereas the EF85mm seems to "snaps" into focus. I
am surprised because both are USM, and both are of very similar built.
Both weighs about the
same with the EF100mm slightly heavier.
Conclusion? No
difference in both the lenses (except, of course the focal length and
maximum aperture). That little 0.2 of f/stop difference shouldn't be
the deciding factor for anybody wanting to compare before deciding which
one to get. Instead, I suggest using the 15mm difference as the
deciding factor.
