This lens feels like the
high-quality lens it is supposed to be.
A built-in push-pull lens
hood extends to provide good masking of stray light from the sides.
When retracted, the hood grabs on to the Manual Focusing ring of the lens
and together, they become one giant focusing ring. Since the Manual
Focusing ring by itself is already huge (5cm wide), the addition of the
hood as focusing ring means that I could realistically grab onto any part
of the lens end and be able to adjust focus. Very convenient, though
I use the hood almost all the time.
When extended, the hood
clicks into position to prevent sliding. This means I could place
the lens down with the hood extended with a (heavy) EOS1n, and the hood
stays in position. While I don't know how long this groove holding
the extended hood in place can withstand my constant extending and
retracting, it has been holding up very well.
When used handheld, IS
modes 1 and 2 really meant no noticeable difference to me, though each is
supposed to work in slightly different ways. You can take handheld
pictures in both modes confidently, though the recommended mode is
1. Mode 2 is recommended for tripod use.
